Dad gets his Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) Medal

My Dad the Hero.

Yesterday, in the Garrison town of Colchester, my father was pronounced a hero of the Malaysian people.

He was awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) Medal.

This Malaysian medal was instituted by the King of Malaysia for award to British and Commonwealth personnel who served during the Malayan Emergency and the Confrontation. In 2005, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II approved its acceptance and wear by eligible personnel.

The Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) medal is awarded to those who served in Malaya / Malaysia for at least 90 days, between 31 August 1957 and 31 December 1966. Service in Singapore between 31 August 1957 and 9 August 1965 is also recognised by the PJM medal

Hello Andrew.

Just seen the Photograph and article on your website. 'Blush'  Bit over the top!  We all went there to do a job, and we got on and done it.

On arrival in Malaysia we had intensive training at the Jungle Warfare School Johore Bahru. There after, acclimatisation in Penang. I was then in Singapore for
a while Then inserted into Borneo. Sabah and Sarawak East Borneo. We served in many locations within the area; among them, Outside Jesselton.  Base Camp Kinabalu,
then at or around Pantu, Kota Belud, Sabauh. Outside Kuching.  Serian, Gedong, Balai Ringin, Tebakang, Muara Tuang and Batu Balai. Singapore again.

These are  among others who's place names I have long forgotten.

However I have never forgotten my Comrades. Or the Peoples of Malaysia.

I am proud to have served with Men such as they, and proud to have been part of it.
